A 15-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital with unspecified injuries after firefighters rescued him from a fire that broke out at a Shortsville home.

New York firefighters saved a teen who was trapped inside a burning house late Wednesday.

The fire broke out just before 11:45 p.m. at a home in Shortsville, WROC-TV reports. When crews arrived, they encountered flames shooting from the structure's back and roof.

The homeowner and four children had safely escaped on their own, but a 15-year-old boy was still inside when firefighters reached the scene. Ontario County sheriff's deputies tried to rescue him, but they were unsuccessful.

“Fire personnel quickly arrived and firefighters entered the residence where they located and extricated the male victim from the house," a sheriff's office release stated, according to WROC.

The boy was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Crews eventually put out the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
