An overnight house fire in Buffalo left two people dead and sent four injured firefighters to the hospital.

Buffalo firefighters were called to a dwelling fire early Monday morning that killed a mother and her seven-year-old-daughter.

The fire started on the first floor then extended to the upper floor of the home. Crews initially performed an interior attack but had transition to defensive operations due to structural concerns.

"The back stairs had burned out, we weren't able to get to the second floor, members of the rescue did a search of the front bedroom, unfortunately he got into the room and ran out of air he had to get bailed out," Buffalo Deputy Chief Paul Graham told WKBW 7.

Over 50 firefighters and 15 pieces of apparatus responded.

Four firefighters were injured and transported to Erie County Medical Center where they were treated and released.

According to fire officials, both victims died from smoke inhalation and no working smoke detectors were found in the home.
