Oct. 11, 2022
Flames leveled Maplelag Resort in Callaway, a popular cross-country skiing resort that was family-owned for decades.

A Callaway resort known for cross-country skiing was completely destroyed as flames ripped through the building Monday.

Firefighters found heavy fire condiitons in the three-story Maplelag resort when they arrived, officials said.

"Everybody in the area knows about Maplelag and what it stands for," Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander told WCCO. "Obviously the family's been here all day, and it's a tragic incident for them."

According to the television station, the family-owned resort also burned in 1999.
