DE Firefighter Hurt in Fire that Claimed Colleagues Improves

A Wilmington, DE, firefighter badly hurt in a fire that claimed two of his colleagues, and left another fighting for her life, has been upgraded from critical to stable condition.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Firefighter Brad Speakman is recovering at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s burn unit. His colleague in the same burn unit, Firefighter Ardythe Hope remains critical. The two were among four that went through the floor of a row house on Saturday attempting to save a mother and her five children. The two other firefighters, Lt. Christopher Leach and Firefighter Jerry Fickes perished in the blaze
Two other firefighters with less severe injuries were taken to Christina Hospital in Newark, DE.
The family that occupied the rowhouse escaped and treated for smoke inhalation, according to the newspaper.
