Two Georgia firefighters—a deputy chief and a firefighter-EMT—have died of COVID-19.

Carroll County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Tommy Hopson had been with the department since 1990, WXIA-TV reports. The department said he was in "the battle of his life with this terrible illness."

"Tommy’s battle with Covid has come to an end and our Lord God has called him home," the Temple Police Department stated in a social media post Monday.

Barrow County firefighter-EMT Tim Watson died Sunday from COVID complications, the department stated

Watson had been a member of the department since 2015. He also served with the Army and National Guard.

"We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers," the department stated.
